As a tutor, I love talking with people about their writing process and equipping them with tools to help them enjoy writing and feel confident! I tutor college and graduate students on academic papers, personal statements/grad school applications, and other projects. I also work non-traditional students pursing other goals. NOTE: I do NOT help students prepare for the LCSW exam.

MY BACKGROUND: I was a writing consultant in learned a lot about working with people with different learning styles and developed skills for working with people who hate writing! Since then, I earned two graduate degrees in 2013 in programs that required a lot of writing and a significant part of my "day job" for the last 13 years has also involved writing as well.

MY SKILLS: I excel at proofreading and working with students on grammar and improving writing structure. I try to help all my students understand their strengths and weaknesses as I get to know each person’s writing style. However, depending on the needs/time of the student I can also triage what we should work on if you're focused on a specific assignment. I am also "fluent" in both APA and MLA in terms of helping you with citations! I'm also happy to work with ESL students; I have some proficiency in Spanish so to the extent that an analogy may help in Spanish, I'm happy to try!

MY PROCESS: If you're working on a specific assignment, I can start helping at any in the process: brainstorming and refining your thesis, coming up with a plan and paper structure, or helping proofread and providing feedback at the end. If I've never worked with you before, I usually suggest that you start with an hour with me; I can review what you have for 30 minutes and then give you feedback in an online session OR we can talk first and then work through one of the problem areas together. If you just want written feedback (track changes and comments inputted in a Word doc or Google doc), I charge a minimum of $50, but depending on the length of the document, I may charge more.

I was a writing consultant for two years in college and I'm skilled in working with people on essay writing, academic papers, and creative pieces.
Proofreading

Proofreading

In college, I served as a writing tutor and working with students across majors to proofread (and also help them to learn to proofread their work themselves). I honed my writing skills in grad school social work and law and served as a tutor for students for many years in 2016-2018 before taking some time away from tutoring. I often proofread and make suggestions on graduate school application essays and other writing tasks.
Social Work

Social Work

I have a Masters in Social Work.
Writing

Writing

I tutor college students, graduate students, and adult learners in writing. I have experience as a writing consultant from my own college campus. I also write extensively as a part of my 'day job' as a lawyer. Most importantly, I consider myself a practical and proactive writing tutor because I meet my students where they are at and help each student achieve their writing goals!

Hannah is amazing

She was very patient, caring, and knowledgeable. She responds to messages in a very timely manner and is flexible with scheduling. She was a tremendous help with editing and forming ideas for my papers for personal statement. She helped break down tough questions which made it easier to understand. Without Hannah's support and guidance I wouldn't have gotten into my dream school.

Knowledgeable in social work and loves writing

Hannah is an Awesome tutor! She helped me improve my writing skills significantly without changing my writing style. She taught me the proper way to do APA format, citations and references. I am more confident about doing literature reviews and writing papers. She is walking knowledge when it comes to social work. She is able to explain concepts, theories, approaches, research and so much more. She is patient and encouraging, but be prepared to push yourself and work hard. The outcome is well worth it!

Knowledgeable and patient

Hannah is very patient and encouraging. She is exactly what I need to help me focus on the process. She knows the material even though she has been thru a different program. I did not have to waste time explaining to her, as she knew what I was referencing and she clarified it for me.

Very knowledgeable, thorough and patient

She was great. She helped me to organize my thoughts and put them on paper to model an approach to take in outlining. She is really a talented tutor. I learned so much that not only for this one paper but skills that will be helpful for my whole college career.
