I’m a patient, encouraging tutor with a background in journalism and experience supporting elementary students and adults in reading, writing, math, and overall school success. I work especially well with students who feel overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or who need concepts broken down into simple, digestible steps. My approach is calm and structured: I help students understand assignments, organize their thoughts, and build the foundational skills they need to feel confident and capable. I do this by identifying their learning styles, reviewing report cards and analyzing past work to understand where the real challenges lie.

While I’m new to Wyzant, I’m not new to tutoring. I currently work with a variety of learners through two national tutoring companies, supporting students in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and foundational math. I’m experienced in helping children who feel stuck or anxious, and I specialize in breaking tasks into clear, manageable steps that build confidence and independence.

Families often choose to work with me because I explain things clearly and calmly, meeting children and adults exactly where they are without rushing or overwhelming them. I create a positive, low‑stress environment and focus on helping students build confidence—not just finish assignments (though that matters too). My goal is to make learning approachable, less burdensome, and even enjoyable, while giving students tools they can use long after our sessions end.

Approved Subjects

American History

American History

I help students understand the major events, people, and ideas that shaped the United States by breaking complex topics into clear, engaging explanations. My approach focuses on building strong comprehension, critical thinking, and the ability to connect historical events to the present day. I guide learners through reading assignments, primary sources, timelines, and essay responses so they feel confident in class and prepared for tests. I want to make American History meaningful, poignant and relevant for any age student.
Art Theory

Art Theory

I help students develop a strong understanding of art theory by exploring how color, composition, symbolism, and visual structure shape meaning. My instruction emphasizes clear analysis and confident interpretation, guiding learners through major artistic movements as well as the underlying principles that connect them. I teach students how to look closely, think critically, and articulate their insights with precision—skills that support both academic work and creative practice. My goal is to make art theory intellectually engaging, visually rich, and genuinely rewarding to study.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I work with elementary students on essential literacy and math skills, including comprehension, sentence structure, vocabulary, number sense, and problem‑solving. I focus on helping students interpret tasks correctly and apply the methods taught in school. Sessions are paced to match each child’s comfort level while reinforcing accuracy, organization, and academic consistency.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I understand how challenging math can feel for many children because I struggled with it myself when I was younger. As I continued my education, I learned how to break down concepts like arithmetic, fractions, and early pre‑algebra into simple, clear steps — an approach that helped me excel. I now use that same method with students, teaching in a way that is nurturing and encouraging rather than intimidating. My goal is to help children build confidence, overcome math anxiety, and feel capable of succeeding on tests and in the classroom.
English

English

I help students strengthen their English skills by breaking down grammar, reading comprehension, spelling, and writing into clear, manageable steps. With a background in AP English and a Journalism degree, I bring strong expertise in communication, structure, and effective writing. I make traditionally dry topics engaging through interactive lessons that help students understand the material and learn how to analyze it for themselves. My goal is to build confidence so students feel capable and prepared in any English classroom.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I help English learners of all ages strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills through clear, step‑by‑step instructions. My approach is patient and accessible, making it easier for students to understand new vocabulary, grammar, and everyday communication. I have experience supporting many ESL families and know how to explain concepts in simple, practical language. My goal is to build confidence and help students feel comfortable using English in school, work, and daily life.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

With a Journalism degree from Columbia College Chicago and multiple honors including three Dean’s List distinctions, I bring strong expertise in academic and analytical writing. My work was recognized for both investigative journalism and the many essays required throughout my studies, giving me a deep understanding of structure, clarity, and effective argumentation. I teach students how to plan, organize, draft, and refine essays with confidence, whether for school assignments, exams, or college‑level work. My goal is to help learners express their ideas clearly and develop the skills needed to write strong, well‑supported essays. As a tutor for children in the last year and a half, I have come to understand the severe lack of solid essay writing skills inherent in the public school system. I would like to help children (and adults) improve their writing while also discovering that essays can be a true art form.
GED

GED

I help GED students build skills and confidence to succeed across all test sections, with a focus on clear instruction and steady progress. My approach breaks down reading, writing, math, and reasoning tasks into manageable steps while reinforcing foundational concepts. I tailor each session to the learner’s pace, strengths, and challenges, ensuring they grasp the material rather than memorizing it. My goal is to prepare students not only to pass the GED, but also to feel capable and self-assured.
Geography

Geography

I help students build a clear understanding of world geography by exploring regions, cultures, physical features, native wildlife and natural resources. My instruction emphasizes map-reading skills and the ability to connect geographic concepts to real-world events. I guide learners so they can think critically about how geography shapes history, society, and daily life. My goal is to make geography intellectually engaging, relevant, and accessible for any student.
Reading

Reading

I help students strengthen their reading skills by teaching clear strategies for decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a lifelong reader, I understand how important it is not only to read the words on the page but to grasp their meaning and think critically about them. I work with students to make reading approachable, enjoyable and engaging, whether they’re tackling stories, textbooks, or everyday communication. My goal is to build confidence and inspire a genuine love of reading that supports success in school and beyond.
World History

World History

I help students understand major world civilizations, global events, and the connections between cultures across time. My instruction focuses on clarifying timelines, identifying key themes, and making historical developments easier to follow. I guide learners through reading assignments, essays, and class materials so they can interpret information accurately and think critically about historical change. Students gain a clearer sense of how different regions and eras fit together, which strengthens both comprehension and confidence.
Writing

Writing

I help students develop strong writing skills by teaching clear strategies for brainstorming, organizing ideas, drafting, and revising. With experience in both academic, journalistic and creative writing, I guide learners through everything from sentence structure and paragraphs to essays and research‑based assignments. I work to make writing accessible and empowering, especially for students who find it intimidating or frustrating. My goal is to build confidence and help students express their thoughts clearly and effectively in any writing task.
