I have always had a natural love of helping others learn. My first time tutoring was as a high schooler when I tutored my younger brother in math over the summer, making up worksheets and study guides for him so he could test into a higher level of math in the fall. Shortly after that my mom was setting me up with tutoring for her friends’ families. By college my friends were asking me for tutoring.
Officially, my degree is in Biology, where I took advanced Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math -up through Calculus 2. With that in mind, I most frequently tutor in science and math, but I also tutor all of the core subjects. Other experience I have include my first career of 5 years where I worked in personal finance -investing, advising and providing specialized support in retirement and estates. Then, when I became a mother of 2 children with ADHD and autism, I left that career to work with children who had similar needs as my own to learn about how to best meet heir needs. I spent a year working in behavioral therapy to help children with autism learn life skills, then a year tutoring phonics and math in their elementary school and then substitute teaching and tutoring at the middle school and high school levels. Right now I am tutoring in the AVID program of 2 local high school in all high school classes. AVID is a program designed to give the underserved middle students the support they need to succeed in rigorous courses so they can get into and be successful in college. I love what I do.
