I am a mother to a nine-year-old child, and working with him through his elementary years has been one of my biggest learning experiences. While he is now a straight-A student, learning was not always easy for him, especially when it came to memory and grasping new concepts. Helping him succeed meant slowing things down, being consistent, and finding creative ways to make lessons stick. Through that process, I learned how important it is for kids to understand the “why” behind what they are learning. When something makes sense to them, their confidence grows, and learning becomes much less stressful.

Before becoming a parent, I often babysat elementary-aged children, and much of that time was spent helping them with homework and schoolwork. This was usually in a one-on-one setting, which taught me how different every child is and how important it is to adjust explanations to fit their individual needs. I am currently in the process of becoming approved to substitute teach at the elementary level, and I plan to continue my education as I work toward becoming a teacher. My educational background includes earning my GED and completing some college coursework.

Teaching has always been something I felt drawn to, even when life led me in other directions for a time. I am very hands-on and patient, and I genuinely enjoy helping children understand things in a way that feels achievable rather than frustrating. While I may not yet have formal teaching credentials, I bring real-life experience, dedication, and a strong ability to connect with kids. My goal is to help elementary students feel supported, capable, and confident in their learning, both now and as they continue through school.
