I have over 5 years of teaching experience. Most of my teaching experience was accrued during my time as an instructor at iD Tech Camps, where I taught computer science and programming (C++, Java, JavaScript, and Swift) one-on-one or in small groups. This position also provided me with instructional experience across all age ranges (5-18). During my time at the University of Nevada, Reno, I was also a pre-professional advisor for incoming and first year undergraduate freshmen. In this position, I advised students on career pathways relating to professional school (medical, PT, OT, PA, and law schools), suggesting appropriate coursework and extracurriculars. As a PhD candidate, I also mentored three undergraduate students in laboratory science techniques. All three students ended up applying and are currently attending their respective PhD programs.
With regards to teaching styles, I typically adjust and adapt how information is being delivered to a student when in a one-on-one setting. I typically utilize slide decks/information provided by the student as a base but will often design and create my own if the student will benefit from different delivery of the same information. I also regularly utilize "chalk talks" where I draw out and drip-feed information to students so that they can fully understand and appreciate the mechanism being highlighted. I also like to encourage students to dive deeper and provide context by finding and providing primary scientific articles and review articles if the student is interested in a topic.
