My name is Caleb S. I am a current Spanish instructor in the Indianapolis area. I graduated from Marian University with a degree in P-12 Education and Spanish. I also hold a minor in the area of English as a new language. Although, my passion for education did not begin in college. I actually started tutoring in the areas of Mathematics and Spanish in high school. This experience helped me find my passion for helping others succeed and achieve their academic goals.
After high school, I began studying Education and Spanish. I continued tutoring in Spanish. During this time, I was also provided the opportunity to pursue a minor in English as a New Language. Thus, I began working with and tutoring students in even more content areas such as English, Science, and Mathematics. Throughout my four years at Marian I worked with students from ages 9-18 in these subject areas. Not only was I able to help them achieve their content area goals, but also provide them skills and scaffolds to help them improve their skills in the English language.
After graduation, I served as an Earth Space Science teacher for a year, in which I worked mainly with multilingual learners at the high school level, helping them transition and improve their skills in the English language. After this, I moved into my current role as a Spanish teacher. With this role, I have helped students improve their proficiency in Spanish. Additionally, I continue working with students by teaching and honing their readings, comprehension, and critical thinking skills that can transfer to other subjects.
As a teacher and tutor, I hope to continue to help students across multiple content areas. It is my belief that all students should have an equitable playing field when it comes to education. With my skills and background, I hope to provide all students with equitable access to education through breaking language barriers and small group learning to help every learner succeed.
