I am a first-year Medical Student at the Indiana University School of Medicine, with hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Purdue University, where I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all four years. I graduated in the 100th percentile of my class with Highest Distinction honors and Summa Cum Laude.
During my time at Purdue, I took both semesters of the Fundamentals of Biology, General Chemistry, General Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Biochemistry. I also took a semester of Cellular Biology, Introduction to Biochemistry, Biochemistry Molecules, Genetics, Biochemical Metabolism, Psychology, Sociology, Biochemistry of Life Processes, and Medical Topics in Biochemistry. I ended with an A+ in General Biology, Organic Chemistry, General Physics, Cell Biology, and Biochemical Metabolism. I took these classes to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), where I scored in the 96th, 90th, and 99th percentiles in the Biology/Biochemistry, Psychology/Sociology, and Chemistry/Physics sections, respectively.
I use an active learning style in my tutoring lessons. In this style, I identify the concepts that students struggle with, and briefly review the lecture content. Then, I set up practice questions of increasing difficulty to target those concepts. The students are not given the answers to problems, but guided to discover the correct answers themselves. In this learning process, students are driven to develop a deeper understanding of the material.
What distinguishes me as a tutor is my recent experience with all the classes listed above. I have not only mastered the course content but also the learning strategies that are necessary to excel in these classes. With my experience, I can guide other students to excel using the same techniques that were effective for me.
Feel free to reach out with any questions about tutoring lessons. I look forward to sharing my experience and helping other students grow!
