I am a native French speaker with over 30 years of experience teaching French to students of all ages and backgrounds. I hold a B.A. in French Linguistics and Literature from Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, as well as a Master’s degree and an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Louisiana State University. Over the years, I have also held K–12 French teaching certifications in several U.S. states.
Since 1992, I have taught French in a wide variety of settings, including language immersion camps, traditional classrooms, private tutoring, online instruction, and language programs for government and military personnel. I have worked with young learners (ages 5–12) as well as adult students, and I teach all levels from beginner to advanced. On Wyzant, I particularly enjoy helping students through structured beginner and intermediate courses, while also offering conversation practice for those looking to build fluency.
My teaching approach focuses on placing students in realistic situations where language becomes meaningful and practical. Lessons integrate grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context so students can understand not just how the language works, but how it is actually used. I adapt each lesson to the student’s goals, pace, and learning style, and I enjoy finding creative ways—often through storytelling and real-life scenarios—to help students overcome difficulties and build confidence speaking French.
Learning a language opens the door to a new culture and a new way of thinking. One of my goals as a teacher is to help students feel comfortable experimenting with the language so they can move beyond the fear of making mistakes and gradually develop confidence in real communication.
