I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master of Art in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (was certified in NC to teach K-12 ESL), and a second Master's in Global Studies.
I have ten years of teaching/tutoring experience with speakers of other languages, ages 13+ from a wide variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I especially enjoy being able to assist with reading comprehension strategies and grammar structures.
In addition, I have tutored native English-speaking students in writing subjects privately, at a prep school, and in the college context over the past 20 years. My specialties are essays and research papers with MLA or APA formatting and citations. I currently write a weekly column for an online magazine, and I just submitted my first novel for publication, so I am also happy to assist with other creative writing projects.
I prefer to work with 1-4 students (grades 7-12 or college undergraduate) at a time on specific projects and goals. I am interested in helping students brainstorm and plan their writing projects, giving them the structural and formatting tools they need, and offering practical tips and guidance so they can effectively find their voice and create strong content.
