Hello!! My name is Maxwell. I graduated from PFW (Purdue University Fort Wayne) in 2019, and received my Masters from PFW in 2021. After I graduated, I decided to pursue a career in teaching because I am very passionate about math, and teaching allows me to share that passion.

I have taught at local high schools and colleges. Between being a teaching and working as a tutor in my spare time, I have extensive experience working with students in 1 on 1 settings. In such settings, I tailor my teaching strategy to what fits the student, and go through the material at a rate that challenges them without being overwhelming. Whenever a student struggles with a concept, I make them take a step backwards and think through why the problem works the way it does.

Math is a source of anxiety for many students, and half of the battle is building their confidence. I maintain a patient and supportive demeanor during sessions. In each lesson, I break down problems into simple steps. At first, I go through each step with the student, and as they get more comfortable, I provide progressively less assistance until the "training wheels" have come off and they can solve the problem themselves in its entirety. Math can also be a little, well, dry for many students, and I know how to keep them engaged by making my lessons fun without losing focus.

My goal when tutoring is to help students grow their confidence in their mathematical abilities, and help them grow their problem solving and critical thinking skills so that they are self-sufficient in the future. Through my methods, I have had success in achieving this, and I would love to help many more students attain that success.
