Hi! I'm Jennifer and I LOVE math! I graduated from Oakland City University summa cum laude, receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics. I have taught elementary math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and high school Geometry in a classroom setting, and I have tutored those subjects and many other math subjects such as Pre-Calculus and Calculus.
If you struggle with math, no matter the reason, whether it be needing one-on-one attention, having fraction phobia, struggling with a learning disability, having problems connecting math to the real world, etc., I am up for the challenge! I have helped math learners from first grade to undergraduate courses. I can teach to many different learning styles. I have helped students understand concepts from the basics like grouping, long division, fractions, and decimals, all the way up to geometric proofs, trigonometry, and calculus. If one view of a concept doesn't work for a student, we try a different approach to see if it helps with understanding. My love for math knows no bounds!
My approach to tutoring one-on-one is to get to know the student, their learning style and struggles, and cater to the student's specific learning needs. I like to prepare the lessons ahead of time to use our time wisely. Math builds on itself, so if I find a student is struggling with a certain topic, we will break down the underlying concepts to make sure they understand each individual part. I like to show several examples of a topic, then let the student to practice the concept on their own, asking for help if needed. I will often ask questions to help the student recall the next step in a process instead of just telling them what to do, allowing them to think about understanding the concept, not just following a process. Math can be fun! Give me a chance to show you! If you contact me during my available hours, I will respond promptly. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns regarding availability or to schedule a lesson!
