It's almost five years ago now that I walked into the Ball State University bookstore and picked up that book "Chinese In Ten Minutes a Day" out of want for a new major (not a good book, but I'm not here to write a book review). That following summer, I studied that book for twenty minutes per day and fell in love with the language. The following Fall semester I began taking Chinese classes at Ball State.
In the five years since then, I've diligently studied the language and culture, made many Chinese friends, and have even studied Chinese at one of the top universities in China: Tsinghua University in Beijing. I've recently taken the HSK6 exam (level 6 being the highest exam level) which would qualify my language abilities to further pursue a master's degree at a Chinese university with local students.
What sets me apart from others is that I know what it takes to go from zero Chinese to university-life-capable Chinese. I too have gone through learning Chinese tones and characters. With my approach using methods such as "spontaneous Chinese training", grammar points, repetition drills, character analysis tricks, and Chinese music/culture/television, I intend to help others break down this seemingly impossible language into logical and approachable chunks.
Don't let previous language learning experience deter you from setting off on the journey to mastering Chinese, I once studied Spanish, but it never clicked for me like Chinese has. I hope to help you establish that solid language base so that you may continue to study Chinese on your own well into the future!
