Any student or client will, under my guidance, improve over time. Anything else is unacceptable for me, personally, but also for any willing student. I have a BA from Purdue Northwest and an MA from the University of South Florida [English Literature and Rhetoric and Composition respectively]. I have taught many semesters of college level writing, as well as tutoring students across all grade levels, helping with all areas of English language related concerns. I can help with just about any English language related needs.
My teaching approach is simple: I aim to first understand the student's mind, needs and level. Then, and only then, do we begin work since omitting or coming up short on the first part is unacceptable or waste of time. Once I have a solid grasp of where to begin, I customize the processes according to the particular needs or level of the student. This, of course, takes on many and variable forms; however, you may trust that I am doing everything within my power to understand and bring along the student according to his/her specific nature and needs.
I feel strongly that emotional encouragement and support play a major role in any functional or thriving learning environment. Along these lines, my one and only rule is simple: safety, respect and building. I take pains to ensure that each and every student, class or audience first feels totally safe and respected. I also make very clear that my one and only true goal is to help her/him become stronger and more confident with their language skills.
