Looking for help in Math and English? I can help with both! Having spent the past 9 years tutoring students grades 3-12 in Math (Calculus and below), all levels of English, American History, Science (ICP, Biology, and below), and SAT/ACT Test Prep, I am comfortable serving as both a specialty and all-purpose tutor. My greatest skill (and joy!) is making complex concepts clear and accessible to frustrated students.

Looking for help in Math and English? I can help with both! Having spent the past 9 years tutoring students grades 3-12 in Math (Calculus and below), all levels of English, American History, Science (ICP, Biology, and below), and SAT/ACT Test Prep, I am comfortable serving as both a specialty and all-purpose tutor. My greatest skill (and joy!) is making complex concepts clear and accessible to frustrated students.

I come equipped with a B.A. in English and Cinema from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Art and Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. Through my own academic struggles, I can empathize with the frustrations and fears of the students I tutor. Middle school and high school can be both demanding and overwhelming, but clear guidance and heartfelt encouragement can turn those difficult experiences into sources of great joy and confidence. From these teachers I learned that nothing brings "boring old history" alive more than good old-fashioned storytelling, the very heart and soul of well-taught and well-learned history. My approach focuses on mastering individual skills through lessons focusing on specific problem types within the four math subsections (Heart of Algebra, Problem Solving and Data Analysis, Passport to Advanced Math, Geometry) and homework in which students complete practice problems exclusively within the problem-types under review that week. Students are quizzed on the previous week's topic at the start of each session to monitor their progress and allow for extra review, if needed. Comprehensive math review and time management strategies will be developed and honed the month prior to the test.

Great tutor for SAT prep

Katie did a wonderful job helping my son Charlie prepare for the SAT test. She was very flexible and easy to reach when scheduling sessions. She gave Charlie a lot of material and practice tests to work on between sessions and spent time reviewing his weak areas and explaining incorrect answers to problems. Charlie felt more confident and better prepared going into the test because of Katie.
