Hi I'm Miles, I recently graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Chemistry and I want to continue my passion for Organic Chemistry through helping others! I have noticed a lot of students struggle taking material they have learned and applying it to new situations because of the strategy they use when solving Organic Chemistry problems. My lessons start with identifying what the student wants to strengthen, or reinforce material taught in class by going over the fundamental principles behind it. We will then go over some example problems together so the student can understand my thought process when solving a problem because this is the biggest weakness for students, they normally have the pieces to solve it but don't know how to put them together or what questions to ask themselves and it is this strategy of how to think that I will be stressing the most. After, I will have practice problems for the student as an opportunity to test the students knowledge and go over any mistakes and how they came about so we can identify and overcome them. This is how I structure my lessons but I am always open to changing it based on the students needs!
I understand the amount of time and work it takes to be successful in an organic chemistry class, the content can be overwhelming at times and it can be abstract and hard to visualize. I personally dealt with and overcame these issues myself when I was going through Orgo 1/2/3 and helped others succeed during my time as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for Organic Chemistry 1 (C-341). I led my own discussion section in a similar fashion I teach my lessons, created and graded quizzes, and held weekly office hours for students to get individualized help! I cherish my time as a UTA because I truly am so passionate for Organic Chemistry and seeing the students grow and learn from me was very rewarding,
I am easy to reach and always fast to respond. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
