Hi, I'm Raghav! I am a computer science and neurobiology student on the pre-health track at the University of California, Irvine. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've immersed myself in the world of tutoring and teaching, transforming what began as a hobby into a lifelong passion. Hi, I'm Raghav! I am a computer science and neurobiology student on the pre-health track at the University of California, Irvine. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've immersed myself in the world of tutoring and teaching, transforming what began as a hobby into a lifelong passion. And it all started after I witnessed my first "Aha!" moment.

"Oh wait, I get it now!" As a student, I heard these “Aha!” moments could make any teacher’s day, but it wasn’t until two summers ago that I truly understood the power of the “Aha!” moment. In co-teaching a meteorology class for ScioVirtual, a company that helps middle school students prepare for Science Olympiad events, I worked hard to instill my passion for learning into the hearts and minds of my students. Here, I met Ansh, an 8th grader from the heart of LA who loved learning meteorology but struggled to connect with the class's content online.

His "Aha!" moment happened while I was trying to explain cloud formation. Initially, he couldn't understand it; he struggled to grasp the behavior along cold and warm fronts. His confusion was palpable. I needed to pivot. So, I decided to switch things up. I stopped sharing my slideshow on Zoom, repositioned my camera, and started drawing on a piece of paper. I'm no Picasso, but in a few minutes, I drew out the process of weather-front-induced cloud formation that I had tried to explain with words before. Immediately Ansh exclaimed, "Oh wait, I get it now!"

My passion for tutoring and mentorship stems from these small but meaningful interactions that help my students learn and grow. Whether it's facilitating a minor "Aha!" moment or a major discovery, the opportunity to inspire and nurture young minds provides me with a great sense of satisfaction and fuels my desire to tutor.

I welcome collaboration with students and parents, valuing their input to tailor each session effectively. For any inquiries or to schedule a lesson, feel free to reach out. Let's embark on a journey of discovery and academic success together!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

Received a 35 on the ACT Math Section and a 790 on the SAT Math Section.
ACT Science

ACT Science

Received a 36 on the ACT Science Section (June 2022 Test).
Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

In high school, I was part of my high school's newspaper for all four years. It was through this class and extracurricular activities that I learned how to use tools like Adobe InDesign. In my junior year I was the News Section editor, and as part of this role, I had to design News section spreads that would get published in the newspaper. To do this, I used Adobe InDesign where I learned how to design and publish content.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Took Algebra 1 in 7th Grade (2017-2018 school year). Now am taking math classes like discrete math, linear algebra, and differential equations. Also, I competed in competitive math in middle and high school. Qualified for AIME and MATHCOUNTS state tournament
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Took Algebra 2 in 9th Grade (2019-2020).
Astronomy

Astronomy

Qualified and competed in the USAAAO (United States Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad) National Astronomy Competition in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, I competed in the Science Olympiad Astronomy event where I placed top 3 at the state tournament in 2022 and 2023.
Biology

Biology

Qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in 2021. Received a special award from the American Statistics Association for my excellent use of statistics and data visuals.
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

In high school, I took AP biology and AP statistics, both of which I earned a 5 on the AP exam. These subjects both interested me so over the summer I participated in a summer research program at UC Irvine where I used biostatistics and bioinformatic tools like R and MATLAB to analyze cell data derived via single-cell RNA sequencing. Using bioinformatical and biostatistical techniques I was able to quantify the expression of these cells and determine the transcription factors that were precursors to limb malformation disorders like preaxial polydactyly.
Chemistry

Chemistry

Scored a 5 on the AP Chemistry Exam. Received an A in AP Chemistry Class (took class in 10th grade). Will be taking college chemistry classes next quarter in the future to satisfy my general chemistry and organic chemistry requirements for medical school.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I co-founded AcademiaEdge, an organization that provided high-quality online computer science courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, I taught web development, Python, and Java programming courses. At UC Irvine I am pursuing a degree in computer science with a specialization in bioinformatics. My passions in computer science are currently in bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and computational medicine.
CSS

CSS

I have designed and created numerous websites using HTML/CSS in the past. For example, I helped create this website: https://academiaedgelearning.netlify.app/ using HTML/CSS tools. I also created this website: https://raghavjournalismportfolio.netlify.app/, which was my high school journalism portfolio. As a result of my prior web development experience, I believe I would be qualified to tutor a student needing help in CSS.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I took a discrete math for computer science course last quarter in which I received a grade of A+. In this class, I learned about logic gates, proof by induction, proof by strong induction, recursive algorithms and definitions, modular arithmetic, cryptography, and counting (permutations and combinations). I connected with the material very well and I hope that I can now share my passion with other students.
Ecology

Ecology

I scored a 5 on the AP Environmental Science Exam. 2x qualifier for the United States Earth Science Olympiad Training Camp. National Medalist in Dynamic Planet (5th) and Water Quality (2nd) Science Olympiad Earth Science Events. I have tutored numerous students in Earth Science in the past. It is one of my favorite subjects to tutor.
Geology

Geology

I scored a 5 on the AP Environmental Science Exam. 2x qualifier for the United States Earth Science Olympiad Training Camp. National Medalist in Dynamic Planet (5th) and Water Quality (2nd) Science Olympiad Earth Science Events. I have tutored numerous students in Earth Science in the past. Earth Science and other subjects that fall under Earth Science are some of my favorite subjects to tutor.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I scored a 5 on the AP Environmental Science Exam. 2x qualifier for the United States Earth Science Olympiad Training Camp. National Medalist in Dynamic Planet (5th) and Water Quality (2nd) Science Olympiad Earth Science Events. I have tutored numerous students in Earth Science in the past. It is one of my favorite subjects to tutor.
Physiology

Physiology

Received a 6 on the IB Sports Science and Exercise Exam. Received a perfect score on my IA. Additionally, I took the AP Biology exam and received a perfect score of 5 on it.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Took Precalculus in 10th Grade (2021 to 2022 school year).
PSAT

PSAT

Scored a 35 on the ACT.
R

R

Currently doing computational biology and bioinformatics research at the Fleischman laboratory. Here I use programming languages like R to analyze the pathological progression of blood cancers like myeloproliferative neoplasms. Additionally, I received a certificate for completing a R Workshop for Data Analysis. I have 3+ years of experience with the R programming language.
