Hi there, I'm Ashish!
I'm a Finance major at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Last summer I worked in investment banking, and I'll be returning full time after graduation. Somewhere along the way I realized that what I actually enjoy isn't just solving problems, it's the moment when something finally clicks for someone else.
I have over five years of teaching experience working with elementary and middle school students, primarily in math. Younger students are where I learned the most about teaching, because you can't hide behind jargon with a sixth grader. If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough yourself. On the other end, I've worked with college students preparing for investment banking recruiting, helping them with technical interview prep, financial modeling, and the valuation concepts that trip most people up the first time through. Because of my time in banking, the material I teach at that level is what I actually use.
When we work together, my approach is to figure out where the understanding broke down rather than just re-explaining the same way louder. From there, we build back up, and I give you room to work through problems on your own before I step in. I'm genuinely interested in math and finance, but more than that I'm interested in how things work and why. That curiosity is what I try to pass along, because students who understand the reasoning behind a method stop needing to memorize it. Outside of academics, I play on IU's pickleball team, which has taught me a fair amount about patience and about how much faster people improve when someone gives them useful feedback instead of just telling them to try harder.
I'm easy to reach and I respond quickly. I'm also happy to work from whatever materials, textbooks, or assignments you or your parents want to focus on. Feel free to message me with any questions or to set up a first lesson!
