I also loved my experience with ESL. While some of my students may not have been engaged (which is to be expected in classes of 50+), many came to class with interesting, engaging questions. For my first year teaching in China, we had no curriculum and I designed everything myself. It was great practice for writing the curriculum used at a school I helped found in Shanghai, where I wrote and published the curriculum.
Though a career in the US as a teacher isn’t for me, the relationships I built with my students were so important to me, and sharing their success was a great joy. I’m excited for the opportunity to engage with students again!
