Through all of these educational opportunities my favorite parts were always getting to work with students and watch their confidence rise with their grades and competencies. I bring a lot of energy to my work with students but I try to also adapt that energy to each student. From my mentors and other individuals I have learned from I came to realize that while everyone is unique and often needs a different kind of attention, everyone has the ability to and deserves the opportunity to succeed.
During my undergraduate studies I worked as a tutor in my schools Communication Center. There I would tutor students on how to create and deliver outstanding speeches. I would work with students on the brainstorming and thesis creation, writing rough drafts of outlines and making constructive changes to them, practicing the speech and getting feedback, working on eliminating vocal fillers and performance anxiety, and improve the use of any visual aids used in the presentation. I also helped with resume reviews as well as job interview practice.
In the year between my undergraduate and graduate studies I worked as a tutor and mentor in a low-performing high school. I mostly focused on high school English and would create targeted lesson plans for my students who need assistance in writing, reading, and test-taking. As a graduate student I taught 9 sections of a public speaking course offered to freshman and sophomore students. Here I created lesson plans for 3 classes a week, 16 weeks per semester. I would help with similar skills as the ones from the Communication Center but also worked with them on written communication and how to write effective papers, introduced s
