Each person learns differently. Reading from a text works great for some people. But in my experience, most students understand a subject better when they learn through using real examples, sketches, and visual materials. I have enjoyed helping students "get it" for over 20 years as a teacher, university faculty member, tutor, and director of a nonprofit school and learning center. I have enjoyed helping students "get it" for over 20 years as a teacher, university faculty member, tutor, and director of a nonprofit school and learning center. Now I want to use that experience to help you succeed.

I majored in science as an undergrad, and always loved science and math. I enjoy helping students realize that, with the right approach, they can (at least) 'get through' finite math, calculus, or physics even if it's the last class they will take in that area. I'll share hints and tips so your work - whether it's doing a math example, editing a research paper, or getting ready to take the Praxis - makes sense to you.

My doctorate in education focused on how people can learn best using books, materials, and 'stuff' (I ran the education departments at zoos and museums). I have an extensive background helping students with dyslexia and other learning challenges realize their potential. I've been told that my patience and a sense of humor make learning more fun too!

Need a math tutor? I can help students see the patterns in Finite Math and Calculus that are easier to do homework or take a test. The steps that we go through make sense.

Science was always one of my favorite subjects -- As a kid, I was always taking things apart or looking at something under the microscope. Too many students get stuck in all the vocabulary and miss how topics connect. That's a lousy way to learn, I can help you work through problems so they make sense on your homework or when it's time for the next exam!

Stuck on a paper? I have been proofreading and editing papers, application essays, speeches, and more for many years. Let's catch those grammar and spelling errors, help your thesis flow better, and use the right styles for MLA, APA, and others.

Don't struggle -- please contact me to see how I can work with you to get the most out of your classes!

Proofreading can be a challenge because you often don't "see" things objectively after you have written them. There are also so many different rules for citations and references depending on your field or industry. I have years of successful experience teaching writing and editing at all age levels, along with proofreading papers, journals, and other materials for education, college, and business applications.

Very knowledgeable Tutor

Denise was very helping in explaining the process of the ischemic cascade. She helped me better understand the mechanisms and pathways. We also talked about test taking strategies and how to approach test questions. Denise is very experienced with pathophysiology concepts, and I highly recommend her. Thank you!

Passed my praxis!!

I am so thankful for Denise! After working together twice a week, I was finally able to take (for the third time) and pass my Middle School Science Praxis! Could not have done it without her.

The BEST tutor I have had

Not only did Denise grow my confidence but she was a VERY encouraging, knowledgeable, and understanding tutor. I struggled with the Praxis for a little and after tutoring with Denise for a week I passed. She was so understanding and so flexible. I was amazed with how much Denise knew, she could be the smartest person I know! Denise never made me feel stupid for asking a question or answering it wrong. I was hesitant to book a session online because I thought it wouldn't be as proficient as in person tutoring, I was wrong. Denise engages you and provides the perfect material for your content. I could not have picked someone better!

A truly gifted teacher

I would encourage anyone to seek Denise for any topic. Her ability to break down the most complex problems into simple steps is truly amazing, I can honestly say that this was the first time I have ever truly met a Teacher. She knew exactly how to cater to my dyslexia strengths and weaknesses. I will be forever grateful to her.

Great Praxis Tutoring

Currently Denise and I are reviewing teaching concepts, and students as learners. It has been nice to review things that I have learned in my classes, and Denise is knowledgeable so that she can give me a different "spin" on what I already know. Her knowledge base is noticeable and she is very helpful.
