Hallo! My name is Lane and I am an award-winning German teacher (2020 AATG-Indiana Rising Star Teacher of the Year) with a Ph.D. in Germanic Linguistics and a phenomenal approval rating in my official Indiana University student evaluations. I have been a Lecturer of German at Indiana University Bloomington since 2020, and I have over a decade of experience both teaching and tutoring German at ALL levels, including teaching German at the university level, but also teaching high school students German Linguistics, Literature, and Culture and serving as logistics coordinator in an immersion setting in Graz, Austria for two summers as part of the Indiana University Honors Program for Foreign Languages (IUHPFL).
What I find both essential and rewarding is working to make language learning work for you: this means exploring what works best for you and connecting German to your own interests so that you can build the skill and confidence to overcome challenges in grammar, pronunciation, etc. If this means learning German through music videos, I gotchya! If you want to improve your conversation, I can do that, too! Would you like to learn how to read the heavy hitters of German-language philosophy in the original, I can get you there, as well! AND as someone who spent years learning this notoriously difficult language myself, I can help you navigate the pitfalls of learning German and give you assurances along the way.
