I recently received my TEFL certification through the International TEFL Academy (ITA), an accredited TEFL school. I completed their online certification course, which included a 20-hour practicum. In order to complete the practicum component of my course, I volunteered in ESL classes with some of the refugee population in Indianapolis, IN. This experience gave me insight on how to better teach and tutor those who are learning English as a Second language. I also am a skilled writer, and studied Writing as a major in my undergrad, and am more than willing to help with academic writing, whether that means proofreading or aiding in the pre-writing process.
I spent three months this past year traveling in Asia, in which I visited and stayed in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and China. One of my majors in my undergrad was Global Studies, which included instruction in intercultural competence and three years of Spanish language classes. My Spanish is rusty, but I am an intermediate level speaker. I know that some of my students will be foreign, and perhaps this experience could be of use in our tutoring relationship.
