Hello, I’m David. I am a certified High School Social Studies teacher with over 10 years of experience working with students in grades 9–12 (typically ages 14–21). I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Teaching of History from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where I graduated with a 3.97 GPA. I am licensed in Illinois to teach both Middle School and High School Social Studies. I currently teach in a competency-based high school program with rolling enrollment, where I work with over 300 students each year, helping them recover credits and get back on track toward graduation through individualized instruction.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have several years of experience providing one-on-one tutoring through my school’s daily lunchtime tutoring program, where I support hundreds of additional students. I help students improve reading comprehension, writing, and foundational math, as well as Social Studies topics such as U.S. History, World History, and Geography. I also support ACT, SAT, and AP test preparation. My academic background and daily teaching experience directly support my ability to tutor these subjects. I regularly help students improve grades, complete missing work, and recover credits.
I believe students learn best when they feel supported and capable of success. My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and individualized. I break down complex material into manageable steps and provide clear guidance to build both skills and confidence. I have experience working with students with IEPs, 504 plans, and ELL/ESL needs.
I am easy to reach and happy to answer any questions, and I would welcome the opportunity to support your student’s success.
