HI, I'm Luke! I'm a recent graduate of Pepperdine University with a BA in Biology magna cum laude. During my time at Pepperdine I tutored General Chemistry I and II as a Student Success Center tutor along with holding multiple TA and grading positions within the chemistry department. I specialize in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and pretty much anything biology. While at Pepperdine I received As in all of my chemistry coursework and As in my biology classes (cell biology, immunohistology, research in biology, etc.).
I believe my teaching approach is unique in that I have had lived experience with academic challenges along with helping many of my peers overcome their own obstacles. I believe these experiences have uniquely qualified me to assist students learn in a warm, welcoming environment. Along with teaching content, I apply concepts from neuroscience and psychology to help improve test-taking, attention, and confidence skills. My ultimate goal is for every student to learn the skills to succeed in their current classes and take what they have learned and use those skills to absolutely rock their following coursework! Most of my teaching experience at Pepperdine was peer-peer tutoring (so, college-aged adults), but I have experience teaching younger students (elementary and high school) through my university and church.
As a Christian, my teaching style is heavily influenced by my worldview. I believe every student is worthy and capable and that it is not my (or anybody's) jurisdiction to judge others. I will not impose my beliefs on you, but this is something that I believe is central to my teaching.
