I am a Master's student at the University of Chicago studying Middle Eastern Studies. My research focuses on historical linguistics and comparative Semitics, and my coursework has been a healthy mix of languages, linguistics and anthropology. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, with additional majors in Global & International Studies and in Arabic.
I previously tutored English and Spanish professionally for more than four years remotely. Soon after, I began teaching English, Math and History at a private school in the Chicago area. I have TA'd a number of courses at the University of Chicago as a graduate student, including Intro to Linguistics, Cognitive Science and Italian Renaissance.
I speak and write English, Spanish and Arabic at advanced/fluent levels, and I hold a certification in Arabic from the University of Chicago. Additionally, I am familiar with Hebrew, French, Urdu, German and Akkadian to varying degrees. I am comfortable teaching students in each of the above languages except German and Akkadian, which I understand only in writing.
I have taught students as young as 2, as well as many other ages, including adults. I prefer to teach students of at least age 12, but I am always open to all pupils. I hope you find this information useful, please reach out with any questions.

Approved Subjects

Arabic

Arabic

I have studied Modern Standard Arabic, Classical Arabic and the Levantine and Moroccan dialects, as well as nahw and sarf at the undergraduate and graduate level since 2019. I scored a 100% (Superior) on the Arabic OPI twice in the last two years, and I hold a certification in Arabic from the University of Chicago. My graduate research focuses on Arabic dialectology, the historical linguistic development of the Arabic language (and its ancestors) over the last 5000 years.
Archaeology

Archaeology

I have completed a number of graduate archaeology courses for my MA in Middle Eastern Studies, including a PhD seminar on Pre-Islamic Arabia. Regions I have studied include Egypt, the Levant, Mesopotamia, Arabia and the Eastern Mediterranean. I received an A in every archaeology course I have taken, and for each I wrote extensively researched term papers on subjects such as the Ekron Royal Inscription, the incense trade into Egypt, Ancient North Arabian inscriptions and other topics. I have read thousands of pages of archaeological reports, monographs and summary works, including detailed information on 20th century and state of the art methodology, and I actively include archaeological sources in my research on historical linguistics.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have written many dozens of essays throughout my academic career, several of which spanned 10 to 30 pages (single spaced). I consistently receive high scores on written assignments, and I have never heard any negative feedback on the mechanics, grammar or format of my writing as a graduate student. I have reviewed essays written by several friends and peers over the years, offering specific and constructive edits and suggestions.
Linguistics

Linguistics

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, for which I completed coursework broadly representing the bulk of the field. My undergraduate research and courses focused on sociolinguistics and phonetics, including natural language processing tools such as Praat. As a graduate student, I am conducting research in historical linguistics using computational and statistical methodology. I TA'd Intro to Linguistics at UChicago and previously served as an RA for Michigan Diaries, a sociolinguistic research project.
