I am currently a tenured mathematics professor at a local university, and I have been at this institution since 2001. I have an undergraduate degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics. I have been been tutoring mathematics in many situations since I was in high school. I have experience teaching and tutoring mathematics across the curriculum at the college/university, high school, and developmental levels. I also have experience mentoring undergraduate research students in mathematics primarily in mathematical biology and low dimensional topology. I also have several years of experience serving as a reader for Advanced Placement exams.

I am interested in tutoring in any area of mathematics and will gladly work to help students succeed in their mathematics studies and on their ACT and SAT exams. I am eager to help my students succeed with their course work and develop study habits and strategies that will help them beyond their current course content. Throughout my teaching and tutoring experience, I have worked with high school, college/university, and adult students. For students needing tutoring help with a summer mathematics course, remediation, or just getting ready or ahead for the next school year, I am accepting new students.

I am able to tutor across the high school and college/university curricula, including algebra (all levels), geometry, precalculus, calculus (all parts of calculus), business calculus, calculus for the life sciences, trigonometry, ACT and SAT mathematics, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, abstract algebra, real and complex analysis, modern geometry, differential geometry, topology, probability and statistics, and mathematics content for elementary teachers. I am also able to help students prepare for advanced placement examinations. I am currently writing a calculus for the life sciences textbook. For computational technology, I can help students with graphing calculators, computer algebra systems, and dynamic geometry software.

I have wide range of experience tutoring and teaching students from diverse backgrounds and mathematical preparation. I have tutored high school students, college students, and returning adult students. I look forward to helping you succeed and develop confidence with your mathematical skills and understanding.

Superb tutor!

Dr. Tim is a fantastic tutor. He is patient, clear, supportive, flexible and easy to work with. My daughter’s grades in geometry have gone up as a direct result of his excellent work as a tutor. Highly recommended!

Barry, 3 lessons with Timothy

Passionate Math Tutor

Tim was able to calmly walk my daughter through each of the necessary steps in the process of problem solving in Algebra 2. The most important thing to me is that he is calm and listens to her struggles and is able to make her see the light. We are seeing him again next week.

Blair, 21 lessons with Timothy

Reliable and knowledgable tutor

Timothy has been assisting my son with geometry and the sessions have been going very well, with my son stating that the time was very helpful. Appreciate Timothy’s ability to relate to my son, understand his challenges, and provide direction to assist him in resolving the problems.

Tammy, 4 lessons with Timothy

Very knowledgeable in mathematics

He helped me prepare for the SAT. We went over complex and simple problems, and he walked me through each step. We found a common theme in the problems and this led to a greater understanding of the material. Overall I was very satisfied with the lesson

Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

I was tutored in college-level Vector Calculus and he was very proficient in the topic and was also very clear with his explanations and helped me understand very difficult concepts!

Fantastic teacher

Tim is a great teacher. He was able to break down my calculus worksheets in a way that was so easy to understand. For the first time in a long time, I feel good about my calculus class.

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

I found Timothy when I needed help in my college calc 2 class. In an hour, he was able to explain the chapter I was confused on, answer my questions about the midterm I just had, and begin to explain the next thing I was going to learn. He always knew how to answer my questions and always used examples and drawing to show why they were right or wrong. Definitely would recommend!

Timothy is a smart tutor

Timothy is helping my hs junior daughter with honors pre-calc. He’s professional , organized and a talented instructor. She would not agree to see him weekly if she experienced disconnection with learning or lack of trust. She’s had 5 sessions and enthusiastically wants to continue. Her grades are great.

Great tutor all around

Tim worked with my son for approximately 10 sessions this summer, preparing him for College level Calculus. My son loved working with him. He said that Tim answered questions easily and was very patient. He was very good at explaining everything, and great at seeing what you are doing wrong and explaining how to fix it. He would definitely work with Tim again.
