Hello! My name is Mihir Kumar. I am a first-year medical student at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine on a full cost-of-attendance scholarship and a recent graduate of the University of Southern California, where I earned degrees in Human Biology and Economics on a full-tuition Trustee Scholarship.

For the past seven years my team at Summit Tutors and I have mentored 250+ K-12 students in SAT/ACT prep, math (pre-algebra through multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations), science, English, reading, writing, and history, and more. Many of our students have raised their SAT scores by 250–350 points and their ACT scores by 5–8 points. Each tutor is selected from the top of their class, trained intensively, and teaches only the subjects in which they excel.

Having experience with the internal workings of admissions processes across the country, we guide students through college applications and have helped learners gain entry to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Oxford, Warwick, LSE, USC, BU, and similarly highly selective institutions.

Beyond my qualifications, my team and I really pride ourselves in personalizing our tutoring. We keep caseloads small—never more than four or five students per tutor—so we can craft fully personalized study plans, progress trackers, and lesson notes. Being closer in age to our students lets us relate to their challenges, share first-hand test strategies, and model effective study habits.

Our teaching philosophy balances structure with autonomy. We provide clear roadmaps for studying and testing while encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. Alumni often write back from college to say the habits we built together continue to pay off.

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

My past experience in college essay and application editing as well as simply teaching personalized methods of approaching the ACT English section have made me very confident in my abilities to instruct students of all abilities in ACT English. As in the rest of my ACT sections, I also scored in the 99th percentile in ACT English.
ACT Math

ACT Math

In high school, I was able to take math classes through multivariable calculus and linear algebra and consistently performed well in all of my mathematical academic endeavors. In addition, as the CFO of the company that I founded in high school, I am very familiar with quantitative finance-based and accounting skills. These two points reflected wonderfully in my ACT and SAT mathematics test scores, both of which were in the 99th percentile.
ACT Science

ACT Science

I took 6 lab-based science classes in high school, 8 semesters of lab-based science classes in college, and am currently a first-year medical student. Along with my extensive research-based background, this prepared me well for understanding and answering questions in the ACT Science test, in which I scored in the 99th percentile.
Biology

Biology

During my 4 years in high school, I was able to take Honors biology, AP Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology, earning an A in all 6 semesters of these classes. In college, I have taken both general biology classes, earning an A in these as well. My research for the last 4 years has all been biology-oriented as well, ranging from mutating Topoisomerase I enzymes in tuberculosis to refining CAR T-cell therapy for colorectal cancer patients. This has really allowed me to help students make biology more interesting, as I can find many real-life applications to what they are learning.
Chemistry

Chemistry

During my 4 years in high school, I took both honors and AP chemistry, receiving an A in all four semesters of these courses. In college, I took both General chemistry classes and received an A as well. Much of my lab research involved quite a bit of chemistry, which bolsters my ability to make problems interesting by approaching them from a real-life standpoint.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I am currently a first-year medical student at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine under a full cost-of-attendance scholarship. I graduated from the University of Southern California, where I received degrees in Human Biology and Economics under the full-tuition Trustee Scholarship. Over the last 7 years, my team and I have worked with hundreds of students (domestic, international, traditional, and non-traditional) on college application preparation and essay editing totaling thousands of hours of work and culminating in students gaining admission and scholarships into universities such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Dartmouth, Northwestern, UIUC's Engineering Program, Boston University, Boston College, UT Austin, UCSB, CalPoly, and many, many more. I am particularly experienced with essay editing, standardized test help, and helping students understand how to file the FAFSA/CSS Profile, etc. (and finding financial safeties as well). I would love to share my experiences, thoughts, tips, and tricks regarding the application process with more prospective students.
English

English

I currently attend the University of Southern California under the full-tuition Trustee Scholarship. I am a double major in Human Biology and Economics with a minor in Mathematical Finance on the pre-health track. Over the past year, I have worked with several students on college application preparation/essay editing for around 200 hours. I am greatly looking forward to working with new students!
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

As the CFO of the company that I founded in high school, I am very familiar with quantitative finance-based and accounting skills. In addition, the biology and chemistry classes I have taken in college, as well as my current research, has required an extensive understanding of data modeling through Excel.

In addition to my college application assistance (essay/application editing, etc., as outlined in my qualification notes), I have also served on USC’s interviewing board for scholarship finalists. I am greatly looking forward to working with new students!
SSAT

SSAT

In high school, I was able to take math classes through multivariable calculus and linear algebra and consistently performed well in all of my mathematical academic endeavors. In addition, as the CFO of the company that I founded in high school, I am very familiar with quantitative finance-based and accounting skills. I have also been tutoring everything from algebra 1 through linear algebra and differential equations for quite a while now. These points reflected wonderfully in my ACT and SAT mathematics test scores, both of which were in the 99th percentile.
Swimming

Swimming

Since I started swimming very late (in 8th grade), it took me quite a while to catch up to everyone around me. However, this really taught me how to quickly improve technique and power mechanics for primarily breaststroke and IM. I was a member of the Varsity swim team in high school that placed 3rd and 1st at our state championship meet in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and I would love to share what I learned with other competitive swimmers.
