I earned my Bachelor's in History from the University of Chicago in 2019. Since then I have worked in a few different careers until I landed with teaching. I was a middle school math instructor for two years at St. Mary of the Angels in Chicago. Even though I have a History degree, I have a strong math background and started as an engineering major in Urbana-Champaign, taking classes such as differential equations and Calculus III.
My students at St. Mary's consistently outperformed their growth expectations measured by the I-Ready diagnostic test. This came from my ability to differentiate learning, pushing some students to new heights and bringing others up to speed. Additionally, I was lucky enough to work as a Title I tutor, helping low-income students to achieve great results in math and reading. As a tutor, I both worked one-on-one and with small focused groups.
My tutoring-approach is research-based and student-centered. I utilize many different routines for getting good formative assessments so that I can assess the areas we need to focus on. Also, I aim to put the student and their goals at the forefront of our lessons. Student ownership and responsibility is a key indicator of success. I go over both short-term and long-term goals with students and go over them each tutoring session to check on progress.
