Hello! I love working with elementary and middle school kids to boost their math, reading, and writing skills and to spark their joy of learning. I completed an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and I worked for two years as an assistant elementary school teacher. I currently work as a tutor for students in math, reading, and writing. I use research-based methods of teaching to help students discover and build knowledge, and my goal is always to help students gain mastery in their learning by nurturing their excitement and self-confidence.
In math, I feel it’s critically important for students to develop strong number sense and gain a conceptual understanding of why operations work the way they do. That gives students the foundation to do problem solving and advance to higher level skills. I also have a passion for writing, as I was a journalist earlier in my professional life. I enjoy working 1:1 with kids to empower them to express their ideas and imagination in clear, compelling, and descriptive language.
Overall, I’m a very patient person and bring positive energy to my students. Before getting my graduate degree in education and teaching at elementary schools, I worked as a volunteer tutor for nearly 10 years teaching adult immigrants in reading and writing English. I love building relationships with my students and seeing their excitement as they improve their skills. I want to make an impact in their lives, and I’m dedicated to doing everything I can to help students succeed.
