I was introduced to the power of tutoring in 6th grade when I joined the peer tutoring club. The Apex of my tutoring experience was creating a program that engaged inner city Chicago youth in engaging and powerful tutoring with Loyola and Northwestern University students.
I utilize a wide range of teaching methods to bridge the learning gap so that the learner is able to build their capacity to think, discover, and develop the skills necessary to see successful outcomes.
My Goal as a tutor is to accompany and guide the learner on a journey to the desired knowledge with joy, inspiration and greater purpose as self directed.
I have taught ESL in many different settings to speakers of various native languages and age ranges. I have taught ESL for Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Creole and Indonesian speakers just to name a few. I taught ESL in China to grammar school
students, college students and working adults. I have also worked with community based organizations to provided ESL tutoring to refuges and new arrivals to America.
I am well trained in a variety of elementary teaching methods. My specialty is tutoring K-6 youth in reading in literacy development, reading and social emotional skills. I have formal training in curriculum development, child development and educational psychology. I am well versed in the learning standards for the elem grade levels, benchmarks and gaining more understanding of how the common core works.
