I have been tutoring independently since graduating high school. In high school, I was selected twice to teach the class when the teacher was unavailable. My best subject is Math. I was consistently at the top of my class in math in high school and college, achieving a 32 in math on my ACT and a composite score of 30.

I am currently tutoring two students from my church in math.

My tutoring technique is to lead the students through a couple of problems explaining the methods needed and then let the student do the work. I will not give the answer, but lead the student down the path giving as much or little help as I feel they need.

I have been programming computers since I was 10 and have been doing various programming related jobs for the past 17 years.

I have been tutoring ACT Math and Science for the past 4 years through Kaplan. I received a composite 30 score on my ACT scoring 32 in those areas. My first student raised her composite score by 4 points and other students have raised their score to equal to or better than their desired improvement. My general approach is to lead the student to the answer rather than giving them the answer. I will try multiple ways to get them on the right path. If there is a real struggle, I will work through the problem with them and other similar ones until they grasp the concepts needed.

During my Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree we worked with COBOL and JCL. I also worked on a mainframe with my previous company for 3 years during our Y2K conversion. I was also part of the team that migrated our mainframe batch jobs to our new AS/400.

I have an Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Computer Programming. I have programmed various computers and languages over the past 33 years since receiving my first computer. I have used those skills over the past 20 years in different business environments writing programs on the mainframe, designing Word/WordPerfect scripts to automate creating form letters, and exporting data from our donor system to Access to run custom reports and receipts.

The site has a mix of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to serve up the pages and process user requests. Recently I started coding pages to pull information from, and post information to, our CRM via the supplied API. I have also used these skills to develop personal web pages and I am currently helping our church design a kiosk showcasing our sponsored missionaries. I have been using DOS since the early days of DOS 3. I have written batch programs to automate tasks as needed. I still prefer to use the command line available even in today's modern Windows 8 systems when I need to get something done quickly and/or need more control than the GUI offers.

I have been using Access for the past 18 years as part of my job. In order to better report on our customer data, I designed an export process from our CMS into Access. From there, I was able to write numerous reports that helped us to understand our data and send out various targeted mailings as well as generate customer receipts. In my previous job I was on a team that developed a part counting system that enabled us to avoid the yearly 2 week shutdown for inventory. That was written with a front-end in Visual Basic and back-end in Microsoft Access.

I have been developing websites using PHP for the past 10 years. I currently maintain a non-profit website which uses the Wordpress PHP framework. I have also developed websites that required customizing every page in PHP. Before we upgraded to our new donor tracking system I had written a PHP module for our website for entering news items and another module for tracking event registrations.

I have been programming in Basic since the early 1980s. My high school teacher was so impressed with my skills that I am the only person to have been allowed to take both semesters of programming in my freshman year. I have been using Visual Basic since version 4. I helped design a Visual Basic/Access inventory reporting system for my previous job to help them track warehouse parts counts without needing to shut down the factory for a full inventory. I have written numerous one-off programs in my current job to help with data extracts and imports.
