Hi, my name is Jenny! I'm a native English and Mandarin speaker, fully bilingual in Spanish, and currently perfecting Portuguese. I was born and raised in Chicago and have also lived and worked in Portugal for nearly five years, as well as lived and studied in Beijing and Spain.

Until August 2024, I spent three years at a bilingual family business working with a predominantly Spanish-speaking workforce. While in Portugal, I worked as a marketing specialist, event organizer, and personal assistant to an UHNW German semiconductor mogul who launched a film/luxury event production start-up in southern Portugal in 2023. I particularly enjoyed the fast-paced, international environment!

I've volunteered as a language services team lead at international sporting events worldwide (Laver Cup, The World Games, IIHF), liaising with delegations and teams to provide on-site interpretation in Poland, Montenegro, Costa Rica, Spain, and more. Throughout high school and college, I interned at the U.S.-China Chamber of Commerce in Chicago.

I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from UW–Madison, studied abroad at NUIG in Ireland, and am currently pursuing an online MBA at Porto Business School.

I've tutored English and foreign languages for seven years, and since 2020, have also tutored philosophy, focusing on argument-building, reading comprehension, and essay writing. My language tutoring emphasizes immersive learning—integrating vocabulary and grammar with speaking, reading, writing, and translation to build confidence and fluency rather than relying on rote memorization.

I tailor lessons to match each student's goals, targeting strengths, barriers, and areas for improvement. For students interested in pronunciation and “sounding like a native,” I've got just the techniques to help you achieve this.
