During my undergraduate years, I began tutoring a chemistry course that was mandatory for all incoming STEM students, and I became hooked. I fell in love with tutoring because it allowed me to help others learn the same things I struggled to learn, and it was very rewarding for me to witness those moments when everything "clicked" for them and they understood something. As I continued to tutor other university subjects and complete various tutor development trainings, I eventually earned my International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) – Level 1 from the College Reading and Learning Association.
Since then, tutoring had become such a strong passion for me. That's why I later became an in-person teaching fellow for an undergraduate aerodynamics class, conducting review sessions and coming up with practice exam questions. For two separate semesters I served as a course preparation program tutor where I designed a curriculum and delivered lectures to help incoming student review prerequisite knowledge. I also virtually tutored algebra to 8th-graders in schools in New York and Texas as an Ignite Fellow with Teach for America.
Through many of my tutoring experiences, I have become really fond of using digital tools especially for virtual tutoring. The ability to use color in digital whiteboards, draw excellent diagrams, and easily switch between different digital media has helped me convey information in a much more engaging and understandable way not just for middle-school kids but also my peers in college. I also find that one-on-one and small group tutoring has been so instrumental to the success of students because they get the opportunity to get very targeted help with misconceptions or gaps in learning which can be very specific to each student.
That's why I am super interested in volunteering as a tutor on Wyzant because I can do just that! My long-term goals for students I tutor is to give them students tools to overcome any topic that's difficult to learn and to become resilient probl
