I have nearly two decades of experience in education, including nine years teaching in public schools and ten years in a private Lutheran school setting. I hold a master’s degree and have taught a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. My experience includes teaching middle school math courses such as pre-algebra and algebra, as well as working with younger students in reading and math. Over the years I have supported students at many different ability levels and helped them build strong academic foundations.
My teaching experience has been with students in grades 5 through 8 with a focus in math, science and social studies and grades 2 through 4 with a focus on math and reading. In addition to classroom instruction, I frequently work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce skills, review concepts, and provide targeted support. These smaller learning settings allow me to adapt instruction to each student’s pace and learning style while focusing on the specific areas where they need the most help.
My teaching approach focuses on helping students truly understand what they are learning rather than simply memorizing steps. I break complex ideas into manageable parts, guide students through practice, and encourage them to explain their thinking so they develop deeper understanding. My goal as a tutor is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can grow in both confidence and independence as learners.
