I am a senior biology student at the University of Illinois, where I have maintained a 4.0 GPA. I have more than 1,500 hours of experience through university-level peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. I have worked with students ages 15 to 30, including high school and undergraduate students, in both one-on-one and group settings. My tutoring experience includes math, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and physics. I earned a 522 on the MCAT, including a 131 in CARS, as well as a 36 ACT and 5s on seven AP exams: Biology, Psychology, English Language, English Literature, U.S. History, European History, and World History. I also hold CRLA Tutor Certification, and my work was recognized with my university’s Learning Hub Non-Writing Employee of the Year Award.
My tutoring approach focuses on identifying why a student is struggling rather than simply showing the correct answer. I often ask students to explain their reasoning aloud so I can determine whether the issue is content knowledge, passage interpretation, problem setup, timing, or an assumption leading them toward the wrong answer. I then adapt my explanation to the student’s needs and help them build a repeatable process they can apply independently to unfamiliar problems. My goal is to help students understand both the material and the reasoning behind it.
For MCAT students, I can help with strategy and content across C/P, CARS, B/B, and P/S, as well as full-length review, study planning, timing, and analysis of missed questions. I especially enjoy helping students develop a consistent approach to passage reasoning, answer elimination, and distinguishing what the passage supports from what merely sounds plausible. I can also tutor ACT preparation and several AP subjects. Whether working with a high school student preparing for a standardized exam or a college student working through a difficult science course or preparing for the MCAT, I tailor sessions to the student’s goals, strengths, and areas for improvement.
