My educational background includes being certified in Elementary Education with a Masters in reading. I also have an endorsement in Special Education LBS1 and ESL.
I taught for 40 years. Currently, I am substitute teaching. My most recent teaching was in special education with 4th and 5th grade. Prior to teaching special education, I taught technology to 3rd to 5th graders for 4 years. Prior to that, I taught Title 1 reading to small groups(K to 5th) and Reading Recovery 1 on 1(1st grade)...

Throughout my career, I have tutored reading and ESL in an after school setting in small groups and individually (K to Adult). I love tutoring because it really helps me get to know students one on one. I find that it helps to do an interest inventory the first time we are together in order for me to get to know the students and bring their interests into the lessons I provide for them.

My Masters in reading, my fluency in reading and writing, and knowing how to grow my students are strengths for me.

I’ve been teaching students with special needs for two years. The students are fourth and fifth graders. Some of them are students with ADHD.

For the last two years, I have been teaching math, reading and writing to 4th and 5th grade students in Special Education. Prior to that time, I taught technology to 3rd through 5th graders. Prior to that time, I taught reading and writing to K to 5th grade students. This work has all been done in the same district for 24 years. I am certified in Elementary Education with an ESL endorsement, special education LBS1 approval and ESL approval.

I have played guitar when teaching preschool music. I have introduced students to guitar while teaching elementary education students. I can teach beginning guitar chords to new students.

I taught reading for 20 years. I have Reading Recovery training. I also have experience using the Leveled Literacy Intervention program.

I have been teaching Special Education Resource to 4th and 5th graders for the past two years. I have to balance the general education curriculum with the individualized education plan goals for my students to be successful. Furthermore, I have to build the confidence in my students so they can do their best work.
