I can help you come to grips with challenges in physics, chemistry, math and related subjects (see list of subjects). I am available to tutor students at all levels, up to and including grad. school. I have experience tutoring elementary and high school, ACT, SAT, college, MCAT, and graduate school. Whether you are struggling with material, or if you are an advanced student looking for a complete understanding, I can help you. I am passionate about teaching these subjects, but I realize that they don't come easily to all students. When tutoring, I make every effort to relate to students at their level and present topics in an understandable and approachable way.

For students who are struggling with difficult classes, do not despair! A poor teacher or lecturer or difficult curriculum does not spell disaster, if you're able to get help. I have aided hundreds of students come to grips with difficult and challenging materials.

I have degrees in Physics and Chemical Physics. My graduate training was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a top-notch science and engineering school. I have many years teaching experience, in college, grad. school and high school. For the last four years, I taught at a private school in chicagoland, where I headed the science department, redesigned the science curriculum and designed a rebuild of the science labs. At the same time I taught college classes and tutored students individually.

Math

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I studied this topic as part of my training in physics. Research work has given me real-world exposure to differential equations. I am able to break down the concept and techniques and explain things on the level of the student.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

This is an important topic with many many applications, and I studied it as part of my training in physics. I have helped many students with advanced math classes such as this. My experience working in physics research provides me with knowledge of real world applications as well.

Organic Chemistry

I studied the topic as part of my training in advanced chemistry. I have also tutored organic chemistry students studying for premed. and other degrees. Orgo. requires a different approach to most areas of chemistry. Surprisingly, it's actually less about memorizing reactions and more about learning reaction mechanisms, i.e. how the electrons "move" during the reaction.

Great Tutor!

I did statistics tutoring with Richard and he was great! My school requires that we pass a stats proficiency exam and I have had a hard time passing it. After tutoring with Richard, I finally passed the exam. Richard did a great job at explaining the concepts and was very patient. I also really appreciated that he always came prepared and provided clear notes. I definitely recommend him for stats tutoring.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Richard was very knowledgeable and patient with my son. He tutored him in Business Calculus. Prior to Richard tutoring my son, he had a 74% average. Richard spent almost 6 hours with my son and at the end of the semester he received 100% on his final test with an overall average of 86% in the class. Thank you!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Richard is very knowledgeable in Science and higher Math subjects. He ask questions while teaching and tries to find out where you are at, and will cover any concepts that are missing to bridge the gap and bring one up to speed, to understand the current material. I have been successful in Linear algebra, Differential Equations and Physics, due to his patience, and instruction.

Great tutor

Richard helped me prepare for an algebra exam. I am not a fan of math and wanted to work through a study guide. I was very specific about what I needed to learn and how I need to learn. Richard was patient listened to my needs and helped me work through and learn how to solve all the problems in the study guide. He worked at my pace and my style of learning. He know his stuff!

First impressions

Richard and I have only met once; however, we have scheduled tutoring for at least three times per week for the next four weeks. Richard explains methods very well and makes difficult equations much more manageable. I look forward to working with Richard for the weeks to come.

Very Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

I was preparing an interview but my English was not fluent. He helped to improve my pronunciation and expression. Also, simulate an interview with him. It was very effective for me.

I'm so glad we found Richard to help my daughter prep for the ASVAB. She's always struggled academically and procrastinated when it came to schoolwork but Richard has been reliably and patiently working with her. Now she actually looks forward to their lessons!
