I am Pooya! I have a B.Sc. degree in Aerospace Engineering. I also took extensive graduate-level coursework in aerospace with a focus on flight dynamics and control. At Ohio University, I took extensive graduate-level coursework in two fields: industrial and systems engineering and computer science. My education lead to a deep knowledge of math, physics, and computing.

In the past, I taught technical courses to airplane maintenance technicians in a large airline in a classroom setting for 4 years. At Ohio University, I was a teaching assistant for two courses: Introduction to Computer Science (CS), and Object-oriented and Database Development (OOD). In CS, I was in charge of two C++ programming labs supervising 33 students where I helped them finish their lab assignments. In OOD, I helped 40 students write their programming projects in C# within the .NET framework. Recently I taught math and CS in a classroom setting for 2 years in a high school in Wilmette, Illinois where I taught two computing courses, one introductory in Python, and one intermediate in Java.

I have been tutoring a variety of students from middle school up to college level and adults in Chicago area, in a variety of settings: one-to-one, in groups of two or three, as well as in person and online.

My general approach is to introduce new topics by connecting those to the current knowledge level of each student. After a short introduction, I let the student attempt practice problems and make mistakes before I point them in a more fruitful direction. I adjust my lessons with specific topics or problems that the student or their parents are interested in reviewing.

Other than homework help and test preparation, I help students get ahead in the school curriculum. I even teach capable students fun and advanced topics beyond school curriculum.

I am highly organized and patient, and I provide fast response. Let me know if you have any questions or if you need to schedule a lesson in math, physics, or computing!

Calculus

Calculus

I have a solid background in calculus, its theoretical foundations as well as its application in physics and engineering. After my first encounter with calculus in high school, and studying multi-variable calculus in the first year of college, I studied applications of calculus in ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, physics, dynamics, and in a variety of engineering courses. Let me know if you are interested in scheduling a session with me.
Computer Science

Computer Science

Hi, I am Pooya. I taught two Computer Science courses, one introductory, and one advanced, for about two years in a high school in Wilmette, Illinois. The introductory course was on programming in Python, and the advanced course was on object-oriented programming in Java. At Ohio University, I was a teaching assistant for the Introduction to Computer Science course where I supervised two C++ programming labs with a total of 33 students. At the same university, I was later a teaching assistant for the Object-oriented programming course where I helped 40 students to write their programming projects in C# in the Microsoft .NET framework. At Ohio University, I took extensive graduate-level coursework in computer science including: data structures and algorithms, design and analysis of algorithms, theory of computation, and operating systems. I program in Python, C, C++, and Java. Let me know if you or your kid needs tutoring in Computer Science.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

Hi, I am Pooya. I taught Mathematics and Computer Science for about two years in a high school in Wilmette, Illinois. I took extensive graduate-level coursework in Computer Science at Ohio University, including discrete mathematics, design and analysis of algorithms, and theory of computation. I had also taken discrete mathematics for the first time in high school. Discrete Math is the introductory math course required to study the mathematical foundations of computer science. Discrete math ends up being heavily used in theoretical computer science courses, such as data structures, algorithms, and theory of computation. Discrete Math also serves as the opening gate to the study of the branch of mathematics known as Combinatorics, which deals with enumerating and counting mathematical objects. Let me know if you or your kid needs tutoring on discrete math.
Physics

Physics

Hi, I am Pooya. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. I have also taken extensive graduate-level courses in aerospace engineering with a focus on flight dynamics and control. I taught math and computing in a high school in Wilmette, Illinois for a couple of years. As part of my aerospace studies, I took many courses that model physical phenomena, such as calculus, physics, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, advanced flight dynamics, material strength, and structure analysis and design. I have a strong background in college physics, and calculus-based physics. Let me know if you or your kid needs a tutor for physics.
Python

Python

I took extensive graduate-level coursework in Computer Science including data structures, algorithms, theory of computation, machine learning, and natural language processing. I have designed medium size object oriented programs in Python. And I have done data analysis and machine learning using Python libraries, such as pandas, scikit-learn, numpy, scipy, and seeborn. Let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a session with me.

Really knowledgeable and in depth tutor.

Pooya has been an incredible help throughout my calculus course this summer. He breaks everything down in a way that actually makes sense — especially with tricky concepts like related rates, inverse functions, and limits at infinity. He’s super patient and never rushes through explanations. I have left every session understanding exactly what I needed to do. Thanks to Pooya, I actually feel confident solving problems on my own now. I highly recommend if you need a solid tutor who genuinely knows what they’re doing.
