Welcome, my name is Brandon. I have always enjoyed math, so much so, that when I applied for the tutoring position at Lewis University I specifically choose to be a math tutor and switched majors. Welcome, my name is Brandon. I have always enjoyed math, so much so, that when I applied for the tutoring position at Lewis University I specifically choose to be a math tutor and switched majors. Prior to Lewis, I graduated from Joliet Junior College with a 4.0 GPA where I worked 20 hours a week as a peer tutor for a large duration of my time as a student. As a peer tutor we used a drop in and one-on-one system, where I assisted students with time management and better study strategies and habits. Most of my experience is small groups when a concept as a whole needs work or one-on-one when specific clarification is needed.
The topics I specialize in are the calculus series, particularly I and II, differential equations, and due to student demand a lesser extent in general chemistry and organic chemistry. I employ rote memorization and recollection of rules and properties of mathematical techniques, by analyzing the problem and writing off to the side the method or formula, in generic form, needed for the problem. Writing off to the side utilizes and ingrains the information in long-term memory (which is the goal!) and rote, we do it for every problem, even if they are very similar, until the habit is formed.
I enjoy both math and learning. I understand both of those can seem hard, and sometimes impossible, that leads to a lot of frustration. Personally, it can aggravating not having appropriate resources available. I'd like to hopefully be that additional resource that you can rely on. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, to schedule a lesson, or consultation.
Some more background, I also graduated from Cortiva Institute, a trade school for massage therapy, where the director of education offered me a position as a teaching assistant shortly after graduating. I mainly assisted with large classroom supervision and became the kinesiology tutor through the VARK model with particular emphasis on kinesthetic practice and practical training.
