Hi! I’m Emily, and have been tutoring students for more than 16 years. I began as a peer tutor, teaching music theory, sheet and sight reading, and clarinet to 5th graders. Hi! I’m Emily, and have been tutoring students for more than 16 years. I began as a peer tutor, teaching music theory, sheet and sight reading, and clarinet to 5th graders. I love starting each first session by letting students show me what they’re working on and hearing what they’d like help with. From there, I create a personalized plan to build their confidence and skills. When it comes to music, there are three basics I always include: breath work, scales, and sight reading. <— There is no such thing as too much practice when it comes to these three basic! After a few years of music tutoring, I began helping students in Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I use the same caring, step-by-step approach for math as I do for music. (Sometimes even using music to help remember tricky math equations — catchy little tunes can make formulas stick!) A little about me: I love hiking with my dog! Last year I hiked over 46 miles on the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. He didn’t come on that one, but he joins me on plenty of local trails. I also enjoy traveling and have a goal to visit all seven continents. If you’re looking for a patient, creative tutor who will meet you or your child where they are and help them grow, I’d love to work with you!
