I’m Christian! I got my bachelors degree (BS) in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry prior to graduating medical school, where I obtained my MD. Throughout my journey to becoming a Physician, I learned just how important having someone who can explain topics in an easily digestible manner can be. Having something explained in a way that allows you to make connections easily is the name of the game in studying for both the MCAT and USMLE step exams in my opinion. This is the exact way that I approach tutoring rather than focusing on route memorization, I incorporate pattern recognition and trends to approach problems. Since medicine and all of science are an ever evolving field rather than have you memorize every fact under the sun, I have found its far more useful to have you follow trends so that when you see a question that you may not know exactly on your exam, you can use these skills to approach the problem with confidence. I start out each tutoring journey with my students by having them either take a practice exam and share the results with me, or have them share the results of their most recent practice exam, so that we have a foundation set to see what areas we need to focus the most on. I will then structure my lesson plans with them to go over what areas we feel need the most work, typically through working through practice questions together, then allowing the student time for questions throughout our session.
This system is exactly what allowed me to preform well on my standardized tests, such as the MCAT where I scored a 131 on CARS, and a 255 on USMLE Step 2. It took me a long time to figure out exactly how I needed to study in order to achieve my desired outcomes, and I’m proud to say I have helped many undergraduate and medical students over the past 3 years of tutoring in our one on one sessions achieve their goals as well. When I get the text/ email that one of my students hit their goals or even exceeded it, it makes all the work feel worth it!
