I have worn many hats within the science field. At the start of my career, I was a lead tech, solely responsible for the mycology and mycobacteria departments, training new techs and students in these areas as well as in microbiology.
Later, as a research associate for a global healthcare corporation, I conducted research studies for multiple divisions and quickly became the lead coordinator for FDA Class A clinical trials in Europe and the United States. One of my responsibilities was to train emergency and surgical personnel in these locations to initiate and administer blood substitute protocols. I received two corporate awards for my work in these clinical trials.
Next, I was offered a position as assistant professor at a Chicago University. As I have always enjoyed teaching, I accepted the position. At the beginning of my tenure, I was the professor responsible for the instruction of clinical chemistry, immunology, microbiology hematology and mycology.
I left teaching for a career change, serving as a PA for 14 years. The health system I worked for was in need of a permanent program director for their laboratory science programs. Familiar with my resume’, administration asked if I would be interested this position. Missing all the aspects of being an educator, I jumped at the chance!
Since assuming this position, I have successfully achieved developing and streamlining the didactic and clinical aspects of the programs to accommodate the continual growth and development of the industry. I have expanded the programs to include on-line didactic education. With my efforts, a more interactive environment between instructors and students was created. Outside of the educational programs, I have also trained of employees for competency testing.
Throughout my career, I have gained tremendous leadership and educator qualities. I am confident and qualified to perform the duties and responsibilities as an educator with full appreciation of the anatomic and clinical science field.
