Hello there, I'm Tom! I hold a doctorate in biological psychology from the University of Georgia, and I've spent almost four decades teaching this subject to college students.

Besides biological psychology (especially the subareas of behavioral neuroscience and evolutionary psychology), I'm experienced in teaching the psychology of learning, perception, cognition, and psychological statistics. In addition to psychology, I'm well-versed in other areas of science, such as biology, astronomy, and linguistics.

I'm also adroit with mathematics, as evidenced by my score of 800 on the quantitative part of the GRE. I've kept my mathematical skills sharp by teaching (mathematical) statistics over many years to college students.

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

After earning my PhD in biological psychology, I went on to publish research in such places as the Journal of Human Evolution (among others). I'm well-read in the field of biology, with my interests ranging from paleoanthropology to astrobiology.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

My doctoral dissertation pertained to brain evolution, and I have several publications in that area. After grad school I did a postdoctoral fellowship in comparative primate brain anatomy at LSU Medical Center. I continue to track developments in the field. I also have tutoring experience in the area of behavioral neuroscience.
Proofreading

Proofreading

In my many years as a professor, I've graded countless essays, term papers, and research papers, giving me a sharp eye for punctuation errors and honing my skills in correct grammar. Not to mention that I'm a good speller -- a highly useful trait for a proofreader! It may also be relevant that I scored 760 on the Verbal part of the GRE (placing me above the 99th percentile).
Psychology

Psychology

Since earning my PhD in Psychology, I've spent four decades helping students to learn this subject. My primary areas of expertise are in the areas of Cognitive and Biological Psychology. I'm also experienced in teaching Psychological Statistics. The subjects that I most enjoyed teaching were Cognitive Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Evolutionary Psychology.
Statistics

Statistics

I’ve taught statistics 15 or 20 times during my career as a professor, so I have lots of experience in helping students to learn this subject. Now that I am semi-retired, that experience is paying dividends as I apply the skills I learned in teaching to the one-on-one medium of tutoring.

Knowledgeable, Patient, and Kind

I desperately needed some last-minute help with a proposed experiment essay for my Statistical Methods in Psychology class. Tom was excessively accommodating to every concern I had regarding my essay. He went above and beyond to aid me and went the extra mile. He was kind and patient, and he effectively explained to me why any errors I made were made and how to fix them. I am insurmountably grateful for Tom's help. I would highly recommend Tom to anyone needing tutoring in the wide range of skills and knowledge he possesses.

Exceptionally skillful and dedicated!

I reached out to Tom for help with proofreading, clarity, and flow of logic for the project proposal for my PhD. He was such a great listener and thoroughly addressed each and every point of concern I had. Tom went completely above and beyond with his work- I am BLOWN AWAY and so thankful for his help! I'm not sure if I am more impressed with his fluency in such a wide range of topics in science and biology or with his incredible editing skills. I consider myself to be a very good technical writer, yet he caught me on so many things I otherwise would have missed! His feedback was invaluable and absolutely strengthened my proposal. I would / will totally hire him again when it comes time to edit my dissertation.
