I love teaching and look forward to sharing and promoting the fascination and wonder of the sciences with young minds everywhere, one student at a time. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending thousands and thousands of hours discussing science with both teens and adults through WyzAnt. Teaching is second nature for me, growing up in a family where both parents were high school teachers. My father taught Biology for 30 years, which helped fuel my passion and enthusiasm for the sciences and motivated my pathway to a B.S. in Biology from Purdue University.

A rewarding teaching approach begins with a passion and energy for the subject matter. It requires detailed preparation, careful listening, patience, solid communication, and genuine care for the student’s success, in addition to a great command and understanding of the material. vibrant visual aids and modern, and real-world examples help keep students engaged and interested even when discussing challenging material. However, it’s key to tailor and adapt the teaching style to the strengths, weaknesses, and goals of each student and build their confidence--we work together.

Spending a decade as an Illinois-Licensed Physician Assistant honed my teaching skills, especially in one-on-one settings. Patient education is an essential skill in the medical field. When patients enter clinics with diverse science backgrounds, it forces healthcare providers to create and develop alternative methods of teaching the same health topics to ensure that every patient who walks in has a good understanding and explanation of their current condition and goals.

Anatomy

Anatomy

Human Anatomy is one of my favorite science topics, ever since I first thoroughly encountered the subject during my undergraduate Biology coursework at Purdue University. My understandings were furthered and deepened through The University of Iowa College of Medicine’s Physician Assistant program, where I worked with full human cadavers. Finally, my professional experience as an Illinois state-licensed Physician Assistant for 10 years hinged on mastering the principles and details of Human Anatomy, where I utilized them daily as an integral part of my daily work in practical, useful applications to enhance the health of others.
Biology

Biology

This past 2024-25 school year, TEN of my students earned "5's" and another NiNE earned "4's" on the AP Biology Exam! I've helped nearly 60 students earn a fantastic "5" score on the AP Bio exam during the last 5 yrs. Another 60 of my students have earned "4" scores during the same timeframe. I am well versed in all biology topics, my knowledge derived from a B.S. in biology from Purdue University and then adding twenty more hours of post-graduate coursework in biology from ISU. My medical training from The University of Iowa College of Medicine enhanced my understanding of biology's concepts and provided real world applications for my science education. In my spare time, I've complemented my science background with numerous science courses from nearly all of the local colleges and have thoroughly enjoyed spending hundreds and hundreds of hours teaching the concepts of standard High School Biology, AP Biology, Collegiate, and even Post-Graduate Biology through Wyzant, plus preparation for May's AP Biology Exam.
Microbiology

Microbiology

I am well versed in Microbiology, my understanding derived from courses in Microbiology that were part of my B.S. in Biology from Purdue University, plus an important part of my post-graduate Biology coursework at ISU. However, my understanding of Microbiology and its current applications was significantly enhanced through The University of Iowa College of Medicine’s PA program. The principles and concepts of Microbiology were incorporated into my decisions everyday as an Illinois state-licensed Physician Assistant for 10 years, especially when treating patients with infectious disease.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is one of my favorite studies because of its close involvement with human anatomy and physiology. I scored within the top five in Pharmacology among The University of Iowa’s College of Medicine. Of course, I applied the principles of Pharmacology in my everyday work as an Illinois state-licensed Physician Assistant in otolaryngology and gastroenterology, accompanied by a DEA license for schedule III-V controlled substances. I've been working with Simmons College FNP students for 3 yrs and welcome them all !
Physiology

Physiology

Human Physiology and Human Pathophysiology are some of my favorite science topics, ever since I first thoroughly encountered the subjects during my undergraduate Biology coursework at Purdue University. My understanding of Human Physiology and Pathophysiology was furthered through The University of Iowa College of Medicine’s PA program. Finally, my professional experience as an Illinois state-licensed Physician Assistant for 10 years hinged on mastering the principles and details of Human Physiology/Pathophysiology, where I utilized them daily as an integral part of my work in practical ways towards improving the health of other. Comprehending Human Physiology and Human Pathophysiology are pivotal in diagnosing disease and treating it effectively.

The very best Biology tutor!!

David worked with my daughter Julianna for a couple of of months (twice a week) to help her with her AP biology class, specifically focusing on prep for the AP exam. She really enjoyed his teaching style and told me that David was really good at explaining the concepts to her. She even looked forward to the sessions because she felt like she learned so much. He was super organized and really efficient at teaching and reviewing the material with my daughter. David always provided a very detailed summary of the material covered (which was a lot) at the end of every lesson and was super responsive and accommodating when scheduling sessions despite the two hour time zone difference. The best news was we found out my daughter scored a 5 on the AP bio exam. This was amazing given she wasn't feeling confident about the material prior to getting tutoring from David. Highly recommended!! You will not find a better Biology tutor.

Amazing teacher!

I can’t believe how much easier AP Biology feels now that I’m learning with David. He has a gift for explaining even the most complicated concepts in a way that makes them clear and understandable. I’m genuinely so grateful to have found such an amazing tutor!

Very in depth and explanative tutor.

I had a test for AP Biology 2 days away when I first had my meeting with David. I had missed the last week of school, so I had almost no knowledge of the Unit. In 2 lessons we were able to catch up the whole unit and make a 13-page study guide for the test.

Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutor

David has helped me with my microbiology and genetics classes from the undergraduate level to PA school. He always comes prepared to sessions with pictures/visuals and the best analogies that make the difficult concepts much easier to understand. Highly recommend!

Welcoming Learning Environment - Supportive

I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with David. From the very first session, he created a supportive and welcoming environment that immediately put me at ease. What truly sets him apart is their ability to personalize every lesson to match my learning style, pace, and professional goals. He have a deep understanding of advanced pharmacology and pathophysiology, and they break down complex topics in a way that’s both clear and engaging. I never felt rushed or judged, and he always took the time to ensure I understood the material before moving on. His encouragement and patience gave me the confidence I needed in a challenging program. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, approachable, and compassionate tutor who truly invests in your success, I highly recommend David.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST OF THE BEST!!

When I first started AP Biology, I really struggled. Everything felt dull and overwhelming, and no matter how hard I tried, the concepts just wouldn’t click. That all changed when I started working with David. Not only did my understanding and grades improve, but I actually started enjoying biology. David has a gift for breaking down even the toughest topics into simple, understandable pieces. He always came prepared and used the silliest (but incredibly memorable) analogies that made learning fun. It’s obvious how passionate and knowledgeable he is, and that enthusiasm is contagious. I’m beyond grateful for the chance to work with him—he made a subject I once dreaded into one I looked forward to. I truly wouldn’t have thrived without his support. 100/10, hands down the best tutor I’ve ever had!

Look no further. . .he's fabulous!

My daughter has had many tutors and David was by far one of the best! He came to the meeting prepared, offered many visual aids, and had an exceptional teaching style. By the end of the call, she had complete understanding of the material and went into her exam with confidence. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Amazing tutor!

My son has been working with David since the start of AP Bio and their weekly sessions have made a huge impact. David makes complicated material understandable and reinforces what is emphasized in the classroom. He also keeps on top of the large volume of material covered in the class and makes sure they are staying on schedule. He knows the AP exam inside and out and I have no doubt his students will be well prepared for the test. David is always accommodating with schedule changes which has been incredibly helpful in balancing sports and academics. I highly recommend David and can't imagine tackling AP Bio without him!

Thank you so much!

Dear David, Thank you for helping me understand the chloromazing aspects of a chloroplast! The lesson on photosynthesis and light-independent reactions was both engaging and informative. I especially appreciated how you integrated elements of my favorite movies into the lesson—it made the topic even more enjoyable and memorable. I would love to continue incorporating my favorite movies into future lessons as they help me connect with the material. Thank you for making Biology fun and relatable! Best regards, Sara (:
