Bio

My tutoring philosophy is, "I don't shame, blame, or judge." That's because we need to feel safe in order to learn anything, so I can help you no matter what your grade is, how far behind you are, or why you need help. I can even help you cram, if you have a test tomorrow. :)

I have been a private and professional tutor for 15 years. mostly high schoolers, college students and graduate students. I love making any subject interesting for a student, and giving them hope that they can get...

I have been a private and professional tutor for 15 years. mostly high schoolers, college students and graduate students. I love making any subject interesting for a student, and giving them hope that they can get the grades they're capable of.

I was the Psychology Tutor at Harper College in Palatine, IL for five years. I have a Masters degree in social work (MSW) and I passed two licensure exams, which means I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW.) I work in private practice in the Chicago suburbs.

My Bachelors degree is in Theater Performance, so I can teach you lots of actor's tricks to help you feel confident giving a speech. I also specialize in Anxiety Management, so I can help you alleviate anxiety and soothe your nerves.

I have a professional understanding of Learning Disorders, ADHD, ASD and Anxiety Disorders, so I understand how symptoms can impact a student's ability to get the grades they are capable of. My greatest strength is patience, which has enabled me to successfully tutor students with many different diagnoses and challenges.

If you are frantic, distracted, or anxious, I'm the tutor for you! You are welcome to talk about your feelings about your class, frustration at your teacher/professor, boredom with the subject matter, inability to concentrate when you're reading, fear that you will never understand the material, and sadness or anger about your assignments and grades. That way, we can identify the things that discourage you from learning and make a plan to tackle them.

Acting

Acting

I'm a good fit for you, if you want help interpreting your lines, writing a backstory for your character, or blocking an audition monologue. I can also provide feedback about your posture, facial expressions, volume, and enunciation. I work very well with people who want to improve their acting, but struggle with "the jitters" or "stage fright."
Psychology

Psychology

I took all of the undergrad Psychology classes, before I decided to switch tracks into Social Work, so I have one foot in each "world." I was the Psychology Tutor at Harper College in Palatine, IL for five years, and then tutored Psychology through Wyzant for 10 years. Last, I'm the substitute instructor for several Intro Psych and Child Psychology classes.
Social Work

Social Work

I earned my MSW at Dominican University, and work as an LCSW in a local group practice providing psychotherapy to kids, teens, adults, couples, families, and groups. I have 10 years experience tutoring social work students in college and graduate school. Whether you need help with APA papers, presentations, or understanding concepts, I've got your back!
Theater

Theater

Whether you have "stage fright," trouble memorizing lines, or just need a partner to run lines, I can help! My BA is in Theater Performance and I have auditioned for and performed in dozens of Shakespeare plays, children's theater, and musicals. I have directed some plays and skits, and I have been trained in Shakespeare Folio Technique.

A Great Start to Examination Preparation!

Maggie D. bolstered my confidence related to taking an upcoming, multiple-choice exam. I acquired a plethora of accurate information that was necessary in order to select the correct answers to many practice questions. She made the difficult, complicated material understandable and the specific information contained therein memorable. She's good.

Maggie's great!

Maggie is helping me build confidence in my ideas and helping me translate them into effective writing. She meets me where I'm at, rather than imposing a predetermined, one-size-fits-all agenda. For anyone struggling to organize a tangle of ideas into an outline, and an outline into a finished project, I recommend Maggie's tutoring.

Patient and very understanding.

Maggie is good, she helped me with Grammar, and made sure sentence structure was in place. She is helpful in narrowing down the paper, and helping you remove the fluff.
