As an undergraduate at Purdue I double-majored in philosophy and German, minoring in Psychology. As an undergraduate at Purdue I double-majored in philosophy and German, minoring in Psychology. After a year on exchange at Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany, I undertook an M.A. and subsequently a PhD in Historical Theology from Saint Louis University. My major area was the history of Christianity in the modern period in Europe, and my minor areas were Islam and Ancient Greece. As a graduate student I was a sought-after researcher and have kept in practice. As such I am familiar with the demands of style manuals (APA, MLA, Chicago, Oxford) and am able to comfortably navigate the major research databases (e.g. JSTOR, EBSCO)

I have taught all levels of high school, undergraduate, and graduate courses. I am fluent in German and can read (with the aid of a dictionary) Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and Biblical Greek. I have authored or translated multiple peer-reviewed publications, and have won awards for prose style. I have one-on-one experience tutoring middle and high school students, and working with students on the ASD spectrum.

My style in individuated instruction is to first learn what the student’s objective is, what extra-curriculars or hobbies they enjoy or are good at, and what are the things they really care about, and use all that at as an analogous template for plotting out a pathway through the knowledge and skills they will need to meet that objective. Knowing what my student is passionate about or otherwise highly invested in gives me a point of contact to relate the task and its components to their quest for mastery of, for example piano or distance running. Past students in evaluations have consistently praised this approach as well as relatedly, my style of breaking down complicated concepts into relatable, digestible bits that they can understand.
