Hi, I'm Tanish! I graduated at the top of my class from Palatine High School and I'm studying Computer Science at UIUC (ranked top 5 nationally). I'm the first student in my district's history to complete every math class offered, including AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and college courses like Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra, finishing my degree’s math requirements before starting college! These achievements, plus leading the math team in scoring and helping revive a district-wide coding event, earned me the Senior of the Year Award from our math department.
From my time as a student, I've helped countless peers understand math concepts and problems. Through this experience, I've noticed they often struggle with understanding why math works the way it does. Without this foundation, math becomes a meaningless collage of foreign symbols, a monotonous step-by-step process that students memorize and execute robotically. In actuality, math is a language that tells a story of how patterns reveal hidden relationships, transforming abstract ideas into a concrete understanding of our world. Its beauty lies in solving problems in multiple ways, like telling the same story with different words.
When tutoring, I focus on the why behind each step, breaking down problem-solving thought processes and sharing techniques I've developed over the years. My goal is to teach students not just specific problems, but how to approach unfamiliar challenges. These are the same skills I used competing on the math team, where I sometimes solved problems even my teachers couldn’t figure out. I also share these insights on my YouTube channel, MATHemAIDics (youtube.com/@mathemaidics).
My areas of expertise include all math levels through Calculus II. I want to help my students succeed as much as possible, so I welcome any resources/suggestions from students and parents. I'm easy to reach and will provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
