Hello! I’m Jaimie Lynn, an oil painter and working artist passionate about helping others understand color, light, composition, and the painting process. My studio practice focuses on the relationship between light, atmosphere, color, and emotion. I work primarily in oils, painting still lifes, florals, interiors, landscapes, portraits, and commissioned work. I also offer foundational drawing and sketching instruction.
My experience as an educator began before I started teaching art. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois Chicago. During my nursing career, I taught at the college level, including nursing coursework, nursing math and dosage calculations, and NCLEX preparation. I also practiced in critical care and earned board certification in critical care nursing. This background taught me how to break complex subjects into manageable steps, adapt to different learning styles, identify where a student is struggling, and teach the reasoning behind a skill—not simply the steps.
I bring that same approach to art instruction. Lessons are personalized to your experience and goals. Beginners can learn materials, palette setup, drawing, value, color mixing, composition, block-ins, brushwork, edges, and the painting process from start to finish. Developing artists can bring a painting or reference and work on color relationships, controlling chroma, composition, drawing accuracy, edge hierarchy, light and atmosphere, or resolving a painting that isn’t working.
My approach is patient, practical, and supportive. Painting requires many decisions at once, so I break the process into manageable stages and explain the reasoning behind each choice. My goal is to help you build both technical skills and the confidence to make those decisions independently, while developing paintings that feel intentional, expressive, and uniquely yours.
