My name is Nicholas and I have a Masters PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan. I was also joint a Biology major and Environmental Studies major in college. While in graduate school, over the course of 10 semesters, I served as a TA for multiple discussion and laboratory sections of undergraduates. In this role, I led students through a variety of science courses, including Biology and Ecology labs and discussion. My graduate courses and research were strong in math and chemistry.
As a TA, I serve as the sole-classroom instructor for both large groups of students in discussion sections and lab as well as one-on-one with students during office hours. In their feedback, my students commented on the high level of patience I have when explaining complicated concepts. I also earned a graduate certificate equitable instruction to meet the needs of all my students, including and especially those who might be prone to experiencing self-doubt and "imposter syndrome" related to their abilities to succeed in a math or science classroom. I have experience preparing students for high-stakes exams, but also enjoy and have had success with helping students showcase their understandings in other formats and helping them make personal connections to the content they are learning.
Thanks to my own academic experiences and my TA roles, I would feel comfortable tutoring students at the high school or undergraduate level in a variety of science and math topics, including algebra, pre-calculus, (AP) biology and ecology/environmental science, and others. If you think my experience sounds like a good fit for your needs, please reach out. I look forward to working with you!
