Greetings! Writing, reading, and literature are my lifelong passions. I am a retired educator with over thirty years of experience teaching Language Arts and English in both middle school and high school. I have worked with students of all ability levels, from struggling to advanced and highly talented.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from Northwestern University, and a Master’s degree in Secondary English Teaching from Northeastern Illinois University.
After decades of working in the classroom setting, I am enjoying one-on-one and small group tutoring. I have worked with tutees on classroom assignments, improving reading speed, reading comprehension issues, study skills, understanding literature, and even standardized test prep. Writing, however, is my bailiwick. I have helped college applicants prepare essays, guided high school students in organizing literary analytical papers, coached hundreds of writers on their fiction, non-fiction, and poetry work, and even provided comments and editing for a couple of aspiring novelists.
Although I love being retired and am enjoying extending my hobbies of drawing, painting, writing, walking, traveling, and even learning French, I derive tremendous satisfaction from helping people learn. The unique challenges of teaching continue to inspire me. Tutoring is a wonderful way to help students (young and old) solve their problems, expand their thinking, or develop their creative potential.
Please let me know how I can help you grow as a reader, writer, or learner.
